We’ll show you what each photo reveals (location, phone model, date taken) and give you clean copies without it.
Everything happens in your browser: your photos are not uploaded anywhere. Clean copies are new image files that keep the picture and leave out the hidden details.
Why your photos can give away where you live
Most phones save hidden details inside every photo, called metadata or EXIF data. Depending on your settings, that can include:
- The exact GPS location where the photo was taken, often accurate to a few metres.
- Your phone or camera model.
- The date and time the photo was taken.
Many big social apps remove this when you upload. But plenty of places don’t: some websites, file-sharing links, email attachments, cloud folders and photos sent as files in chats. If you shoot at home and send an original file, you may be sending your home address with it.
This tool shows you exactly what each photo contains, then gives you clean copies with none of it.
How to use it
- Choose or drop up to 20 photos.
- Check the labels. A pink Location found label means the photo shows where it was taken.
- Tap Download clean copies. The new files keep the picture and leave out the hidden details.
Everything happens in your own browser. Your photos are never uploaded, which matters for content you don’t want anyone else to see.
Natalia’s take
In 2020 I had a doxxing scare, and the first thing I did afterwards was check every photo I’d ever sent as a file. It’s a boring habit that takes ten seconds and closes one of the easiest ways for someone to find you. Do it before anything leaves your phone.
Stop your phone adding location in the first place
- iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Camera → set to Never. When sharing, you can also tap Options and turn off Location.
- Android: open the Camera app’s settings and turn off Location tags (the name varies by phone).
Even with location off, run important files through a cleaner before you send them. Old photos, edited files and photos from other devices may still carry it.
More ways to protect your identity
- Watermark everything you share with our free watermark tool. Its copies are also saved without hidden details.
- Watch what’s in the photo too: windows, street views, letters, packaging and reflections.
- If your content has already leaked, read how DMCA takedown services compare.
Quick questions
How do I remove location from a photo?
Load it into the tool above and download the clean copy. The new file keeps the picture but drops GPS location, device and date details.
Do Instagram and other apps remove location data?
Many large social apps remove it from the public copy, but not every website, cloud link or chat app does when you send the original file. Cleaning it yourself is the safe habit.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser and the photos never leave your device.
Does it work with iPhone photos?
It works with JPG, PNG and WebP. If your iPhone saves HEIC photos, export or share them as JPG first, or set the camera to “Most Compatible” in Settings → Camera → Formats.
